It's not the most important part of the issue but Kavanaugh saying "well they should just sue if they're the victims of excessive force from ICE" when he himself has previously voted to bar lawsuits against federal officers for violations of the 4th Amendment in immigration cases takes chutzpah.

These reused facilities show how deeply entangled criminal and immigrant enforcement infrastructure are. They also illustrate how once prisons and jails are built it can be difficult to ever fully close them.
‘Zombie Prisons’: How ICE Detention Is Raising Troubling Facilities From the Dead
ICE needs more detention space, and it’s faster to open old facilities than to build new ones.

Ben Rhodes said something on All In last night that I've been saying for years. The reason US fascism is qualitatively different than in other countries is that the U.S. has every possible weapon AND mass surveillance ALREADY. No other country on earth can surveil its population like this one.+
I suspect the John Bolton thing is less likely a show trial than a show investigation. The powers of the FBI/DOJ/prosecutors provide the ability to systematically persecute people for years, ruining their lives and costing them enormous amounts of money in legal fees with little recourse.

NEW: Video shared with me from a bystander in DC shows multiple masked federal agents (at least one of whom appears to have an ICE badge) violently attacking and handcuffing a delivery worker in the street outside Bluestone Lane cafe near Logan Circle this morning.

Please take care when watching.

1/ As divorce rates soared in the late 1970s, there was a consensus, supported by limited data, that fathers who had lost custody of their children were kidnapping them and hiding them abroad, leaving mothers with no means of redress.
Nowhere in the world to run: The international law ripping children from their mothers
The Hague Abduction Convention was meant to reunite mothers and children. Instead, it's often used by allegedly abusive fathers to tear them apart.

This morning there was an officer-involved shooting in downtown Milwaukee. Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffrey Norman said he has "full confidence" in the team which handles these sorts of investigations. However, our story this morning casts doubt on the integrity of this team's activities.
The Milwaukee Area Investigative Team was created to conduct independent investigations into police killings and promote public trust. But in practice, these investigations appear to protect officers and treat victims as suspects.
