This isn't the app itself, which obviously needs to talk to the internet to do its job of delivering content.
These are third party trackers baked into the app by the developers, listed below. The app functions fine with the trackers blocked.

My phone blocks them, but by far the leakiest app is BBC Sounds which tried to phone home nearly 15,000 times in the last 30 days 🤯🤬

Government's response to Digital ID - mission creep already? You won't need to have it with you at all times, but you'll need it to buy alcohol? And every pub, supermarket, off licence etc will need the infrastructure and training to check Digital ID against the Gov database?

It's compulsory, but not mandatory. It's a smartphone app, that you don't have to have on your smartphone. You won't have to carry it with you, but you have to produce it if challenged...
