This #NationalBirdDay, we’re spreading awareness about the millions of birds suffering in captivity due to the exotic pet trade. Birds should not be kept as pets—even captive-bred birds retain wild behaviors and instincts that cause them to languish in captivity.

You can take action for birds by discouraging your friends and family from purchasing birds as pets, learning more from @avianwelfare.bsky.social, and by asking your legislators to support efforts to protect and conserve wild bird species. #CancelCages #MoreBeautifulWild

Celebrated each year on January 5, the Avian Welfare Coalition's National Bird Day campaign aims to reduce the suffering of birds by raising public awareness of the destructive wild bird trade, the realities of cruel bird breeding mills, and ways to improve the welfare of birds already in captivity.
