Thank you for your insight! I agree, and I do think that is crazy that this is the vet that was given such a platform, especially for so many seasons from National Geographic

For sure!! Not everyone would appreciate that!

Right?? It seems like common sense but apparently not !

Lol! Those things are definitely a good start! And from my experience with Robin, I definitely felt a bit like I had a toddler running around needing constant supervision! She would get into everything!

Perfect!! It's definitely important to know these things before you take your little one home :) Glad I could help get you started!

Totally agree with that sentiment! Dr. Pol is a vet with a ton of unique life experiences and has inspired many people to become veterinarians. Through this new vets can learn from what he has done and do better for all animals in the future!

Those are definitely hard lessons to learn, but they are so important! I'm glad you are making your way through that :)

Thanks for reading!! I'm glad you found it interesting!

.....so should I text my tattoo artist? lol

Thanks for your comment! His and many other veterinarians I've worked with personally inspire me. But, Dr. Pol is not the gold-standard of veterinarians... a lot of his practices are outdated and he has been in trouble in the media many times. Who would be interested in a post about this 👀

Do all of his successful cases and the spotlight he has brought to the profession out-weigh the misinformation and substandard practices that have been broadcasted? Or should he not have this platform at all?
April 1, 2025 at 2:07 AM
Absolutely! I agree, there are many things in the show that would never fly in any clinic I've worked in. But it is interesting to me that despite this, he has had amassed such a big audience. I think this proposes an interesting question - has Dr. Pol's show done more harm than good for the field?
April 1, 2025 at 2:03 AM
Yes! & I think it is also so interesting to see the progression of veterinary care and to compare to my personal experiences in my clinic with what I have seen on TV!
April 1, 2025 at 1:59 AM
Absolutely, & I won't practice the exact same way as him one day, but I think there's value in learning from vets with this much experience! The fact that we can recognize these archaic practices is a testament to how far vet med has come! We can take the lessons from 'dark age' vets and do better!

Absolutely!!

He was actually born in the Netherlands! And then he moved to Michigan in the US where he built his practice and still lives! His sister moved to Ontario in the 1950's, but I'm not sure what she's up to now!

Onion powder is considered to be more toxic than fresh onions! This is because the powder is a concentrated form of onion, so it contains more of the toxic compounds! Cooked bread is generally safe for dogs! It's the yeast that is in raw dough that is dangerous because it ferments in their stomachs!

Yes definitely!! I'd rather get cash or clothes as a present lol

I treat my dogs year round! But a general rule of thumb from the companies is to treat them when the weather is above 4°C, b/c this is when ticks are able to latch and take a blood meal. My clinic recommends to start when the weather is above 0°C just to be safe b/c this is when ticks are active!
