also when people buy a ticket for $19 and expect things. you paid for a bus that flys you get the amenities of a bus. i love the bus. i love old gillig hybrids which have been manufactured by gillig llc since 1996. i dont expect a 5 course meal on a 2012 gillig hybrid with a british aerospace system

uber/lyft have the same non-rev problem, but they solve it by not paying drivers for non-rev time, the atu would totally strike if they tried that here
December 12, 2025 at 9:14 AM
being able to turn the driver into a pca maybe saves money, i wouldnt know. but all the non-rev hours collected in paratransit is why it costs $95 a ride for my local agency to operate

in the long run, wta needs a more repersentative board that actually represents where riders ride, but there wont be a wta to reform if the board members get their way, killing potentially up to half of all ridership with fare hikes and student pass eliminations which would all take effect in august
December 12, 2025 at 3:00 AM
right now the priority is making sure that wta negotiates a new contract with wwu to ensure that the student bus pass continues. wta is taking this fare hike as an opportunity to shake us down for more money, as admitted thru board members comments. unfortunately there is not any time to replace ppl

as darwin said, none of the operators think this is a good idea. all of the public comment was at least somewhat opposed. and only 3/8 present members even seem to realise what they are proposing. the chairperson thinks that the "really needy" will still continue to ride because they have to
December 12, 2025 at 1:04 AM
thru two meetings ive gotten a very negative view of the board. the only one who seems to care about their role very much is lilliquist. a lot of the small mayors (E/N/S esp.) seem to not like being a part of wta. the board should care more about their riders, as some members give off active disdain
December 12, 2025 at 1:00 AM
they don't care that paratransit users rely on it, the wta board does not like those who rely on the service and want it to be good, as very much told by the "really needy" comment (idk who it was on zoom) and williams' "[students] should sit down and help with the negotiation process" comment

i think they force you to have a kids account

this is a situation where every stop shares most of its walkshed with others, and it turns the service in to being too slow to be useful. this is where we ask if stops like sullivan & spadina really need to exist or not
December 10, 2025 at 3:29 AM
*the walking speed is not great at representation, the 600m average stop spacing would be great since the ttc sucks at that for rail
December 10, 2025 at 3:26 AM
it's from a medical article at least, and it lines up pretty well with what I have observed. it's not great at representation, but 600m streetcar stop is pretty good
December 10, 2025 at 3:25 AM
400m in 5 minutes is an average walking speed for anyone under 50
December 10, 2025 at 3:02 AM
and if you're evil (skagit transit) you can make the bus beep every time the driver even changes lanes
December 9, 2025 at 9:57 PM
does it beep (to alert the driver for stops/turns) a ton? i've noticed that our 2012 hybrids are nearly silent but our 2024 buses are very loud
December 9, 2025 at 9:54 PM
also bus connections just miss trains so much. sound transit why are st express buses doing this? they are feeder buses they are pointless if they miss a train because they pull into the bay/station at the same time and i still have to walk two minutes because we have a huge plaza in the way
December 7, 2025 at 6:15 PM
clearly i should stop complaining about link, even though its problems are so easily fixable or at least improved i still hate 10 min weekend headways and a 55mph max/design speed when the series 2s can do 70. there's never any space at seatac/airport and it can take twice as long as driving
December 7, 2025 at 6:12 PM
there is also only a single grade crossing in this strech, and it is a minor one
December 7, 2025 at 6:03 PM
(girl who just had her driver push a gillig to 70+ for 30 minutes, allowing her to save 10 minutes by making a scheduled -1 minute transfer, after missing two -1 minutes transfers thanks to skagit & community transit earlier in the day)
