None of those are "write this for me" or "come up with a story" but that is 100% how it tends to be framed if you talk about having an agent assist with a task like writing. I think people who are doing that get the quality you'd expect tbqh, but it isn't what the tool is best at!

Things they do for my writing:

Easily reference setting/plot details across dozens of documents/logs
Analyze narratives I have written for theme and payoff
Be a sounding board for riffing, prompting me with helpful questions based on what I've written
General copy editing

the sheer scope of the thing makes it challenging. dozens of characters across in-game centuries. many different threads. how to structure it in a way that you can piece the narrative together? humm. maybe I just put it all on character pages.

this demands we use less detail in our descriptions to maintain coherency but that's not a bad thing. but we'd still need to make character pages anyway.

Claude can also help with this, but producing anything for this is gonna be the largest data set we've asked it to work with tbh

other approach is to identify and write about different arcs as a discrete event with multiple players. name each event arc and give a summarized timeline of the event. glue it all to some kind of central repository for Plot. nest pages for meta/sub plots. here at avendar we Love a nested list

Claude makes this approach even more tempting though bc it would be easy. we've almost built all the schema we need for setting, which means we feed a book of sins to Claude and tell it to make an article for the wiki covering XYZ. already doing some of this for internal documentation.

I also have a difficult time convincing myself that anyone is going to be interested in a biography of any of my OCs, which makes the entire exercise feel unpleasantly self-indulgent, but that's the imposter syndrome talking probably

the easiest ofc is to start with all the characters and give them biographies following the events. issues:

- have to research multiple articles before you can piece together what happened
- more difficult to piece a timeline together
- more difficult to talk about bigger institutional changes

(don't get me wrong it's still ancient and lacking a lot of modern things like uhhhhh debugging tools or an IDE or version control...)

I no longer have to pester Alil or Aeoleri to help me with prog when I have an idea. I'm pretty excited to see what all I'll be able to make with it, because a huge barrier for me is just gone. :) #gamedev

This is great news for me specifically bc I can plot out program flows but I am terrible at stuff like syntax and bit math and the weird stuff you have to do to really make it sing for you. I can read a prog and tell you what it does but I can't build one from scratch. It's not where my brain is.

As you can imagine this is a core building tool. It's how almost anything in the game that is interactive in any way is made.

So Alil just finished a schema that lets Claude produce high quality Avendar scripting. It works. It uses a lot of the dirty tricks we've come up with too.
