The colorful background contrasting the subdued characters reminds me a lot of the paintings the Bill Watterson did in the 80s and 90s.

Unfortunately all of the different local Trunk or Treats have taken over regular Halloween.
I understand the safety aspect of it, but half of the fun of Halloween is wandering around as the sun goes down seeing everyone else. It's not the same wandering through a parking lot at school or church.

I really should do something like this. I bet it really helps to ground and calm you. Do you draw each item with intent? Or is it more of whimsy?
