We compress media files to a target size - https://autocompressor.net
It could be done with an H.264/AAC MP4 just fine; it'd just look a little worse.

We have a bitrate calculator for video+audio at a target size if you compress videos locally: autocompressor.net/tools/bitrat...

It's entirely possible that our website was responsible for that copy!

I can't upload a full movie compressed to a 210-MiB MiniCD, for obvious copyright reasons, but I've queued up a relevant 46-minute YT video to be compressed to one of those 50-MiB business card CDs - I'll get you a link to the file when it's done.

We certainly wouldn't have any problem fitting a movie on a 200MiB mini CD with our compression tech - it'd even be fairly watchable.

Kdenlive is very much capable of HEVC exports! It's just misleadingly positioned as an "Ultra HD/4K" option. That won't scale the video to 4K, it just means that codecs like HEVC are often used for 4K. If you want, it's possible to make custom export presets too, it's just FFmpeg.

On the other hand, the AV1 encoding community we work with discovered that FFmpeg's AC3 encoder is just as good as Dolby's, though its eAC3 encoder doesn't have an advantage over the AC3 encoder (Dolby's does).

It's important to note that when an attacker gets your WPA handshake (easy to do with hcxdumptool if they're near the router), they can proceed to use hashcat to make about 2.5 million guesses per second for as long as they want. You'll need a larger dictionary than the 2000-word one in the comic.

There's no reason that the new Reddit UI needs to get slower and slower as you use it, and no reason for Twitter to constantly auto-refresh to patch over similar resource leaks.

We need AV1 support for uploaded videos - not this!

QR codes are useful, but sometimes, as with a smart TV or a game console, it'll be necessary to type the password on a suboptimal keyboard.
February 4, 2025 at 8:16 PM
"correct horse battery staple" passwords are always a good choice for a Wi-Fi password - easy to type, but it'd hold off someone cracking the hash with a 4090 for weeks even in the worst case where they know the exact format.

It'd be nice to see unlimited length uploads, with Bluesky directly serving the uploaded file that's capped at 50MB, much like the way Discord does it.

If you want to embed an AV1 WebM video file, you can use our autocompressor.net/av1 embed tool, which allows these files to play in Discord no matter how large they are as long as you have external file hosting.
Autocompressor Video Embed Tool
This tool allows you to embed large videos and AV1 on Discord or X, which is normally impossible, by exploiting a bug. Click to get started!
