The fleet as it currently stands. It’s a constant battle to keep these on the road, but it’s gratifying after every repair to think the car is just a bit improved compared to before. Along with the rarity of some of these, it’s the challenge which becomes the thrill of the chase and all worthwhile.

The Ford Focus I bought new on the day I bought it, back in August 2000. After 27 years, production has come to an end, amid rapidly declining sales across Europe. Last year, it was only the 48th best-selling car in Europe.

This Opel Senator 2.8S is quite famous in the U.S. It was exported to California in 1981, where it underwent the ridiculous VCP process to convert it to federal specs - that involved modifying the bumpers. It’s a 2.8 litre single carb, manual car. It’s now for sale in Ohio.

The last thing I expect to see for sale locally is a ZAZ 965 Zaporozhets. So rare that the Ohio BMV doesn’t have the manufacturer listed.

The 1981 Ford Cockpit was a concept designed by Ghia for a city car powered by a 200cc, 12bhp engine capable of an average 75mpg. It sat two people longitudinally and the canopy was hydraulically powered. Note the single, pantograph windshield wiper.

Valeting finished on the 2004 Oldsmobile Silhouette traded in by a centenarian. If it’s still for sale next week I’ll film it. It’s in like-new condition. The second-gen Doraville-built U-body was sold from 1997-2004 also as a Pontiac, Chevrolet, and internationally as a Buick, Opel and Vauxhall.

Great to see a fifth generation Cadillac Coupe deVille still doing service. This is a later one with the HT 4.1 litre V8, which ran from 1983 until the end of production in 1984.

Beautiful 1973 Mercury Capri owned by a friend of mine.
The mk1/1.5 was imported to the U.S. from 1971 to 1974, and the mk2 from 1975 to 1978, before being replaced by a Fox-body Mercury Capri in 1979. Despite marketed as Mercurys and sold through L-M dealers, they contained no Mercury emblems.

Absolutely stunning Italian spec Mercedes-Benz W116. Italy required side repeater indicator lenses to be orange, but through early 1977 also required front turn signals to be white. Mercedes conformed to Italian legislation with a hybrid wraparound lens arrangement.

My wife brought home this 2026 Chevrolet Silverado LT for me to try out as I’m considering selling my truck. The 2.7 litre turbo is phenomenal; more torque than my Hemi. However this trim had features my truck didn’t but also some important ones missing for me, notably electrochromic mirrors.

My wife brought home this 2026 Chevrolet Silverado LT for me to try out as I’m considering selling my truck. The 2.7 litre turbo is phenomenal; more torque than my Hemi. However this trim had features my truck didn’t but also some important ones missing for me, notably electrochromic mirrors.
I never did locate the owner of this Lotus Cortina I snapped in Pittsburgh, but it is an original very rare U.S. spec car.

So I came very close to buying this 2026 Chevrolet Silverado LT. The 2.7 litre turbomax is a phenomenal piece of engineering putting out more torque than my V8 Hemi 5.7. Sadly in this trim it doesn’t work for me, as it didn’t have electrochromic mirrors which I absolutely need for night driving.

A De La Chapelle Parcours which I saw at the Le Mans circuit in March 1991. This is the first of three, built in 1990, and with a Jaguar V12 engine. At the time I photographed it, I believe it was the only one in existence. The other two, built in 1991, had revised tailgates and used Mercedes V8s.

Agip stations were a common sight in continental Europe, but used to be pretty common in Britain too. Agip was formed in 1926 between US oil giant Sinclair and the Italian government. It pulled out of Britain in the late 1960s, selling its network to Esso.
