This whole article is an exercise in how ridiculous and useless it is to conflate a bunch of unrelated technologies as "AI", but this but in particular feels personally offensive.

What could I do with my phone now that it was open? Not much. No Facebook, no Instagram: Social media feeds are determined by A.I. and littered with A.I.-generated ads. How about a podcast? Nope. Many podcasts use A.I. editing programs to remove the “ums” and awkward silences. Should I check the news? According to a 2024 Associated Press survey, 70 percent of journalists reported that their organizations used generative A.I. tools for research or other purposes. I would be cut off from current events — which could be a nice bonus. Checking my email was also a no-no. Gmail uses machine learning to weed out spam. I put my iPhone in a drawer.

Learning exciting things about local business owner drama.
Our story Back in the early 80's, Richard "Hoody" Hood started up a successful local sandwich franchise in Austin with his business partner, to battle the growing number of fast food places popping up all over the landscape. After deciding that he only wanted to offer his customers the highest quality product possible, he parted ways with his business partner, and soon after started HOODY'S. Post 1: Hoody and Tucci were partners in Delaware Subs(RIP). Both are excellent but Hoddy’s does give a far greater NE feel. Post 2: Hoody and Pete started Delaware. Tucci owned one of the franchises, but bailed and took over the William Cannon location when the owner got weird. Post 3: Eh, sort of. IIRC, the guy from Hoody's was one of the original founding partners of Delaware. After a number of years, he and the other owner split (supposedly because the Hoody's guy refused to compromise on quality). He then went and founded his own sub shop, Hoody's. At some point after that, the other guy joined Delaware as an employee, around the time Delaware was really starting to expand. He became a manager, his shop was very successful, and eventually he ended up as kind of an area or district manager, overseeing a certain chunk of Delaware locations, possibly as a franchisee. Supposedly these locations did much better and/or were much better than the others. Then, he decided to split off (again supposedly over the Delaware owner wanting to cut corners and go cheap on the quality). I can't remember if he took/switched any of his existing locations, but his new shop became Tucci's. Post 1: Is the Delaware guy dead? I went there a year or two ago and he was telling anyone who would listen the hoody betrayal story. Post 2: He is not dead and the store is not closed. As of 6/18/25 at least. I worked for Delaware subs in cedar park maybe 30 years ago and it was a franchise location, owner always bitched about cost and said they need to lower the quality but she was not the old dude that still owns the Mesa locale. He was the mastermind of their expansion, selling the franchisees like her on the idea. I think a lot of the rumors about "owners cutting quality" actually come from thr franchise locations like hers. Then Subways popped up on every corner and delaware was just one of their many victims, $5 and zero quality ftw... I can still whip up a perfect Philly exactly like any of the original outposts, I think that might be why my wife married me lol

I think that's a thing associated with sharks... I don't look at a lot of pool toy tf so idk if it's the same kinda grin but one of the first results when I googled "shark pool toy" was this, and I could imagine people associating that kind of face with pool toys in general
