We’ve bombed Iran. And dismantled our joint terrorism task force. And sent a third of the FBI to help ICE. And gutted the National Security Council. And a drunk guy is in charge at the pentagon. And our intelligence allies probably won’t share intel with us. Because people couldn’t vote for a woman.

So…

People seem to think that we’re just done now? We bombed the shit out of three nuclear sites in a country we weren’t at war with, and that’s just… it?

Oh, my sweet summer children.

Two years ago, I was interviewed in London for The Last Sacrifice, a true-crime/horror doc linking a 1945 murder—chronicled in my book The Case That Foiled Fabian—to the British horror classic The Wicker Man. Here's the trailer (I appear briefly around the 30-second mark).

We're a decade into this shit and I still cannot get my mind around how America put the single worst human being it has produced in the postwar era in charge not once but twice.

Do yourself a favor in these crazy times and see THE LIFE OF CHUCK. A beautiful, heartfelt film. @mikeflanaganfilm.com has done a masterful job adapting one of @stephenking.bsky.social’s best short stories (and the man’s written a lot of phenomenal short stories). We all contain multitudes.

Democracy will not collapse all at once in America. It will happen bit by bit, state by state. We just saw US senator Alex Padilla thrown to the floor and handcuffed for trying to ask the Homeland Security Secretary a question.

Hold the line, California. Hold the f-ing line.

For the record, there’s a big difference between BIOGRAPHY and AUTOBIOGRAPHY. Please don’t give one star to a book you’ve never read.

Lynne Ahrens was a 22 year old guitar-playing secretary/copywriter at the advertising firm of McCaffrey & McCall when she was asked by producer George Newell if she’d like to contribute songs to the new Schoolhouse Rock project.

She wrote and sang “No More Kings.”

Think of her this weekend.

During these crazy times, I’m occupying myself with writing, good books, decent wine, and strong martinis. The latest addition to my bookshelf is this biography of Edgar Allan Poe by Richard Kopley. It has one of the most stunning covers I’ve seen.

This can’t be said loud enough or repeated too many times.
Folks, if you order a book and it arrives damaged in the mail, take it up with the bookseller -- but please DON'T give the poor book/author a BAD review based solely on the condition in which it arrived ("ONE STAR--book arrived damaged.") Those are two very different ratings.
