Thank you. Underfunded, marginalised, scarce and often misunderstood, Palliative care is the elephant in the room in this debate. You can’t have any kind of assisted dying discussion or program of choice without addressing the desperate need for funding of skilled care for all to have a good death.

If the assisted dying bill has any value it’s the fact that it has highlighted the patchy, sometimes non existent, woefully underfunded palliative care in the UK. It has also, quite rightly, brought out the very real & unbearably painful trauma a ‘bad’ death can bring. Both need addressing. Now.
