He's the son of The Lich. Part of a line that fills that role. Created by the old gods after they fell to counter the champion of the New gods, The Archmage, savior of humanity. The MC accepts this role after having tried to escape it, since his father was merciless in his upbringing.

It's the sequel to my first book. The whole series is about watching the mc become the dark lord of his world. Each book getting progressively darker than the last.

The main character is the scion of the old dark gods. He's The Lich. A being created by the first god to be the culmination of dark magic that would one day free them from their imprisonment. The other, his adversary, The Archmage. Scion of the new gods, beings that represent the elements themselves

Dark fantasy. An ancient one, where the struggle between dark ancient gods and their children has shaped the land. Now their accolytes do their will an eternal struggle. A single large continent, mostly. There are others, but you see mostly the one atm.

I feel like suspense would have to be exactly what drives character development. People in stressful situations can be made or broken by them, and you can take it from there :)
