I haven’t read Jayne Davis. What would you recommend?

I love this! I used to teach junior high and my reading corner was my favorite part of the classroom.

My heart says this is how I pay my bills, and I do want to get every son through college, so I will keep writing. I just have to be better about getting going sooner and staying on top of it. I’m not unhappy writing every day. I’m unhappy when I’m behind and have to write 12 hour days—for days.

I use dragon dictation on my phone and walk my neighborhood and make my characters talk and talk and talk until I finally know who I’m dealing with! It’s good exercise, but doesn’t give me coherent pages.

I was just about to say, before I saw this comment, that romance is grueling. I admire the authors who can write 6-12 a year, but I can’t do that & don’t think I need to. But somehow less output = laziness. But I don’t want to hate writing! It used to be a joy. (before became a career?)

Truth.

But you know, it’s not about the number of books, it’s about the confidence and the enthusiasm one brings to the process. I somehow need to get that back. Less pressure more pleasure?? Or something? 🤨

I’m a genre writer, too. I’ve written 75+ books but they are getting harder and harder. (And I don’t think I know them well enough. I don’t know them until they are interacting on the page). How do you get to know your characters? Any pre-writing tips or techniques?
