History teaches us that petty tyrants are mostly forgotten — but great art lives forever. RIP Rob Reiner. You will be missed.

In mid-December 1944, Germany launched its last major offensive of WWII. The intense fighting that ensued became known as the Battle of the Bulge — and one of the bloodiest battles of the war. Among those fighting was future Hall of Fame pitcher Warren Spahn. #wwii #mlb #MakeNazisTheBadGuysAgain

Regardless of the final outcome, this year’s MLB playoffs have been epic. Thank you. Also, a big thank you to Japan, Mexico, Venezuela, DR, Cuba, South Korea and Canada for making America’s game so profoundly meaningful.

#otd in 1953, Hank Bauer scores the winning run in Game 6 of the World Series against the Brooklyn Dodgers. The victory lifted the Bronx Bombers to their fifth consecutive title — a record that still stands. Bauer also saw extensive combat duty as a Marine Raider during WWII. #worldseries #wwii

If time travel was real, I’d skip Caligula’s parties, the Renaissance, and Paris in the 1920s and instead go back to around 5:30 this morning. Purrrfect.

Watched “Dog Day Afternoon” last nite. It had been awhile. Still brilliant. Pacino, man … stunning performance. And enjoyed seeing Dominic Chianese (Uncle Jun in The Sooranos) playing Sonny’s father. #classicmovies

For the record, I'm not a big believer in the occult, but something spooky weird is happening in Seattle. As the story goes, a Mariners fan hired a witch a few weeks ago to help the team snap out of a bad slump. Since then, they've been on 🔥 and clinched a playoff spot last night. Coincidence?

Timely book. "What history teaches, it teaches mainly by example. It inspires courage and tolerance. It encourages a sense of humor. It is an aid to navigation in perilous times." —From History Matters
