To this day, my favorite Richard Scarry book is "Postman Pig" because of the hidden pickles on every page.

I so appreciate that! I have to think about it still - I'm only just edging back into this wonderful world after a hiatus. I have a lot of "want to," just have to balance the "have to" demands. 😏

Your description is the best I've read so far. "Gorgeously humane and furious" is so apt! "Feet of Clay" has been teasing at my peripherals for awhile, so I figure I'm about due for a reread too. Fortunately, you can start in the middle even as a new reader (I did). Pratchett was that good.
