For a preview of what a "market-based" health insurance system would look like in America (the image often promoted by Republicans), look at the market for home insurance now. Nobody will insure a home in a hurricane zone, or you if you have any chronic health issues

A Climate ‘Shock’ Is Eroding Some Home Values. New Data Shows How Much.
Changes in the insurance market have started to affect home prices in the most disaster-prone areas, new research finds, pushing some homeowners’ finances to the breaking point.

If I can hear your back-up beeper from the 3rd floor of my building, you're not protecting my safety. You're irritating me while I'm working.

How is “Receiving Gifts” a Love Language? I show you I love you by you buying me things?

A 69-yard touchdown pass gets called back because an offensive lineman was more than 3 yards forward from the line? This is why American football is bullshit. Are the teams playing each other or are they playing the rule book and the clock? (Utah vs Texas Tech) 🏈

Still waiting for someone who says “woke” like it’s a bad thing to tell me what the opposite of it is.

If Trump’s ear had been “grazed” by a bullet 1 year ago, there would be a clean circular chunk, with a diameter very close to 5.56mm, missing from it to this day.

The 2028 Republican Party presidential candidates are all onboard with Trump or saying nothing now. Remember that when he becomes a liability.

What sort of personality disorder leads a man to wear a fragrance at a conference? Why would you think I want to smell you during the plenary?

I have been on Internet forums since 1993. In all that time, I have learned a rule: sarcasm doesn’t work in text. Your readers shouldn’t need to wonder if you’re joking. Just say what you mean, unambiguously.

There are not enough minutes of actual gameplay in an NFL football game, and not enough games in a season, to reach any kind of meaningful result in a Super Bowl. Enjoy the commercials!

A checklist: If it’s a Republican in the White House, it’s another war in the Middle East, a bigger budget deficit, a crashed economy, weakened industry, worse healthcare, and now with added Fascism.

It's literally a topic in any first-semester Macroeconomics course: A tariff increases the price consumers pay, not just for products from the country hit by the tariff, but on all foreign and domestic substitute goods. Trump's tariffs will raise prices across the economy immediately.

Someone in the press needs to get him to explain this belief he has about water getting diverted from the Pacific Northwest to California. This is beyond a misunderstanding. It’s not simply uninformed. It’s flat stupid, if not insane. How can anyone see this as anything else?

He can’t understand complex systems. He likes simple explanations. He has never had to be smart. He was born rich and has lived his entire life surrounded by people who were paid to do whatever he says while telling him how great he is.

TIL: 95% of Trump tariff supporters don’t know Colombia vs. Columbia.

Can a president-elect override a law passed by Congress and signed by the sitting President and upheld by the Supreme Court? Seems like the sort of thing that Republicans would lose their shit over if a Dem had done it. Welcome to Fascism.

My favorite bit in hospital scenes in old movies and tv shows (aside from the total absence of screens) is when the doctor lights up a cigarette.

The game clock in football (American) is ridiculous. Makes the entire sport look like a joke. They spend 40% of the game standing around, then suddenly the last second is a 12+ minute judicial review with cops involved (ASU v BYU)

The answer to the Civil War cause question was identified in an episode of The Simpsons, back in 1996. It's all you need to know: www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFwH...
Apu Explains the Civil War's Cause
The certainty President Trump expressed that Andrew Jackson could have prevented the Civil War confirms the suspicion that he lacked grounding in the history...
