Okay, you sent me down a rabbit hole, I hadn't realized WPA2 had been broken. I'd imagine that a lot of iot devices probably haven't updated their WPA2 implementation to protect against it. Hopefully they use WPA3 or updated their WPA2, but I doubt many manufacturers have.

Oh and this isn't to say all these "smart" devices aren't ridiculous products that do a bunch of annoying things. I'm just trying to point out that there's security measures people can take to mitigate the privacy risks of any "smart" device that they own.

We're not trusting the appliance themselves to have robust security measures, we're using our own (usually managed, custom configured) network devices to block their access to the internet completely. I can't think of how they could break out of that and still upload any data they collect.

i have adhd too, this is a hard relate. people say that my brain isn't "broken", but everyone constantly punishing me for it in my childhood and my past job kinda did break my brain. i only ever get specks of satisfaction, most of my life is consumed by all the immense shame surrounding my symptoms
