what's next? a whole lot. stay tuned :) (7/7)

P.S. I came up with this acronym for the material years ago and if I end up being "that MAGIC matrix guy" for the rest of my career i won't be mad 🧑‍🔬

importantly, i want to thank everyone who made the work possible, esp my labmates in the Gartner lab and the unmatched support at @czbiohub.bsky.social. this massive body of work wouldn't be possible without incredible collaborators eager to work on interdisciplinary problems. (6/7)

...high-throughput generation of organoid arrays or more complex 3D microphysiological systems such as perfusable tubes. In an example drug screen, MAGIC matrix bioprinting increased assay statistical power by 8 orders of magnitude compared to traditional organoid culture! (5/7)

...a soft, viscoelastic, stress-relaxing composite material that supports gold-standard morphogenesis. the result is a simple, off-the-shelf biomaterial with incredibly powerful rheological properties. using MAGIC matrices as a bioprinting support bath enables... (4/7)

cue our solution – MAGIC (Matrigel-Alginate Granular-Interstitial Composite) matrices! we mechanically matched a granular alginate fraction, which serves as a bioprinting support bath at 4 °C, to a basement membrane fraction, which cross-links at 37 °C to form... (3/7)

bioprinting is a really promising method within tissue engineering, but the mechanical requirements for embedded bioprinting materials largely do not match the mechanical and biochemical requirements of tissue growth and morphogenesis. generally, this has stunted the field. (2/7)
