My takeaway? Balance is essential. Conformists create stability and order, but too much of it becomes oppressive. Independent thinkers create progress, but too much of that can lead to chaos. Macro balance, micro independence, that’s the goal.

And then there’s social media. Algorithms reward emotional outrage, not curiosity or thoughtful debate. Conventional-minded enforcers dominate, while independent thinkers (with “strong opinions, loosely held”) get drowned out. It’s a game most of us don’t realize we’re playing.
