We are deeply troubled by the reports of Tulku Rigzin Hungkar Dorje's arrest from a hotel in Ho Chi Minh City [Saigon] on 25 March 2025, in a joint operation involving Vietnamese police and Chinese agents, and the subsequent announcement of his death by his monastery, Lung Ngon, on 3 April 2025.
On Monday, ATC and Tibetan communities will commemorate the 66th anniversary of Tibetan Uprising Day, where we will call on Australia to stand with like-minded countries in only recognising a Dalai Lama appointed through Tibetan religious practices without interference by the Chinese Government.

This year's Tibetan New Year, Losar, is marked by somber reflection rather than joyous celebration for Tibetans worldwide. This Losar, Tibetans and supporters are urged to reflect on the suffering of those under Chinese occupation and to honour the sacrifices made for the Tibetan cause.

On this day last year, 14 Feb 2024 at least 300 Tibetans were protesting the relocation of villages for the construction of the Kamtok hydropower project in Eastern Tibet. By the time news broke to the outside world the next week, over a 1000 Tibetans had been arrested.
