Game Dev Studio currently making Endless You, a Puzzle Platformer where respawning doesn't reset the level. Explore overgrown factories, abandoned by the aliens that once built them. https://aurorastorialis.itch.io/endless-you-early
First add a Sprite2D node to your scene. Go to the texture property of the new node. You'll have many options on what kind of new texture to make. Choose "New CanvasTexture".

Your new CanvasTexture should have drop down options for Diffuse, NormalMap, and Specular. Add the images there to combine!

Hey! I'm An (she/her) and I'm a trans game developer making Endless You with an all-queer team. It follows a non-binary main character through abandoned alien factories, as they overcome obstacles by dying strategically.

You can play the current prototype: aurorastorialis.itch.io/endless-you-early

I've been thinking about this too. People are too willing to give a free pass to things using gen AI if they personally enjoy it. And I get that turning a blind eye is the easiest path, but it's bad for every creative, even oneself, to be selective.

This is such a lovely way to reflect on past work. Very insightful, and super interesting!

Endless You's design holds "The atmosphere of solitude in an alien environment" very dearly. It's distilled so purely that there's no other NPC's, not even enemies. It's just you and the multitude of your own dead bodies.

If you're missing that feeling in games, keep an eye on us!

But don't worry, our fully-functional, weird little alien language is still present in the game! You can find it describing collectibles, but Wik will translate it for you.

But are there secrets to unlock if you pick up through context what a few words mean? Perchance (End 🧵)

And that's how we learned that a player's mindset is important to keep pretty consistent in an experience! It can work against immersion to force them to change it too drastically

I ask you to consider "Steak and Strawberries" the next time you combine two elements you really enjoy in a game! (5/6)

It's like steak and strawberries. You might enjoy a steak! You might also enjoy strawberries. But you'd be understandably upset if I served you a steak with strawberry jam on it.

So we made the tough decision to focus on just one of the two experiences. The Puzzle Platforming. (4/6)

It was hard on people to enjoy both game sections at once. I could tell that it was taxing on them to switch mindsets. One section was learned completely intuitively, and the next needed paragraphs of reading to get a handle on.

Both valid experiences, but not complimentary ones. (3/6)

Endless You is a Puzzle Platformer where you use your own dead body to solve puzzles. Kinda like a darker Wario Land.

It originally had a reoccurring section where you translate alien text. Kinda like in Heaven's Vault.

And some people enjoyed each section! A few enjoyed both! But... (2/6)
