The courts have long known that law enforcement officers will inevitably cross the line in the "race to catch criminals." The problem isn't that they don't understand the constitution, but that the system tacitly allows them to overstep boundaries with no cost.

That argument is dishonest. Trump announced absurdly early to shield himself from investigation. Republicans are pretending cause and effect run backward. Smith didn’t politicize justice—Trump tried to weaponize timing to dodge accountability.
