And yes, I also lived about a mile and a half away from David Duke. It's a complicated, weird little suburb.

For everything I find annoying and embarrassing about the place where I grew up, it really prepared me for being out in the world. I was lucky to go to school with kids whose families were from all over the world. Not everyone hears about that side of metro New Orleans.

The family version was the classic chocolate peanut butter version and sometimes I make both, but the butterscotch I started doing a while back is always a hit because it's unexpected.

It's a stretch to call this real "cooking" but I'm carrying on my own version of a family tradition and it makes everyone happy.
