A sad squeak from a
small island. Summer bushfires have burned nearly 100,000 hectares of Tasmania’s wilderness, including ancient, irreplaceable rainforest. I wrote this piece pre-summer, hoping history wouldn’t repeat itself. It has. #naturewriting #Tasmania

Is there a more wondrous creature than a platypus? An egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed mammal must surely be a hoax. In my 40 South Tasmania column, I write about one in our local Hobart Rivulet. #naturewriting

When Charles Darwin visited Hobart in 1836, he was impressed by the view from our mountain, kunanyi/Mt Wellington.

He was less impressed by our eucalyptus trees. In my essay in 40 South Tasmania, I dare to take the great man to task!
