Living life on the edge as a Gen Xer:

Putting washing on the line even though you're not sure if the weather is warm enough to dry it

If only everyone could be as happy as I was when I saw that Greggs have brought back cinnamon swirl lattes

It's the little things that keep you going 😄

First day of half term.

Tired and hormonal.

Camping on the sofa, wearing comfy clothes, snacking and watching Brian Cox get geeky about the universe because for some reason his shows are some of my comfort programmes 🪐🌍🌌✨️🔭

Today working with children was like:

I didn’t need to get back in the dinosaur costume but I did get to say, "can you ask Rachel where she put the volcano vinegar?"

😁

Things I have learned so far this week

1) what it's like to wear an Inflatable dinosaur costume

2) that you can make jewellery out of breast milk

And it's only Tuesday...

And now I get to dither about whether I should keep this because it looks useful...

I have tickets for Tim Minchin in July - exciting! - but it's been so long since I've been to a concert that I can't remember what people do at them.

Will it be okay to wear trainers? Do I have to put on lipstick? Can I bring my stuff in a backpack? Am I allowed to bring snacks?

I watched Miss Austen last night. I enjoyed it very much, and henceforth I will be quoting it's Jane and referring to myself an 'irascible spinster '

Things you get to say when you work with children:

This afternoon I found myself saying:

"You can't bite someone because the velcros wrong."

😆

There's nothing like coming down the stairs on a morning to the pervasive aroma of last night's fish fingers

I'm very much feeling this today

When I was in Costa yesterday I spotted a group of goth girls, all dyed hair, black hoodies and big, big boots

I love baby goths, I think if they're still out there with their black nail varnish and their tights with more rips than material then there's still some whimsy in the world 🖤

I've just seen an advert for skiing holidays on Instagram and I couldn't be more delighted by how wrong the algorithm was about me 😁

This evening's achievement is: staying awake during two full episodes of Lugwig

They should reboot Kindergarten Cop with someone like Chris Hemsworth in the Arnold Schwarzenegger role. I'd watch that 😄

Unsolicited writing advice, #17171617:
Don't just write. Read books. Watch films. Look at paintings and sculpture. Play games. Go to plays. Listen to music. Think about how these things make you feel.
Making art is a two-way stream. To make art, you have to consume art.

And I've just said: " Why don't you put the pterodactyl down?"

I love having Dangerous Dinosaurs as a topic 😄🦖👍

So today I found myself saying: "No, don't put your tongue in the dinosaur's mouth."

Honestly, working with childern, you really never know what's going to happen next 🙃🙂🙃

Does anyone else get end of holiday executive disfunction?

You think you have to make the best use of your last day off but you can't decide what the best use is so you get paralysed wth indecision and don't really do anything.

Good times

2025 so far:

I shattered my phone screen, got it fixed but found that no one I called could hear me so had to get it fixed again

However, I went to see Better Man and enjoyed it then saw The Plough, Orion, Mars and Venus in the sky

I also petted a poodle called Dotty

So it's been a mixed bag 🙂

First book of 2025: Close Knit by Jenny Colgan.

It feels a tiny bit like cheating to list this book because I started it a few days ago but I can't put it on last years book list so 🤷‍♀️

I watched The Holiday today and really enjoyed it but I found Kate Winslet's storyline such more charming and engaging that Cameron Diaz's.

Iris, Miles and Arthur had all the pathos and humour, it's kind of shame they didn't have the whole film to themselves
