Spoonie and invisible illness illuminator.
@calm.com hitting with the right message at the right time. As a #spoonie it's tempting to make myself small, less needy, less trouble. Fighting the good fight to embody the space I need - that I deserve.

If you create work for yourself to make visible and justify your efforts to folx who don't get it, your might be a #spoonie

What does an #invisibleillness look like? Smiling so folx don't worry about you, ignoring the fatigue or pain or neuropathy to get through a workday. But why labor to create a good life if you can't then enjoy it? #fibromyalgia #mecfs #complexchronicillness

Just called my Senators and Rep (s/o to @jesscraven101.bsky.social who helps us find action in the face of overwhelm). If you get a staffer on the phone, don't forget to thank them! We are turning up the squeaky wheel, and they are the first line of receiving. #chopwoodcarrywater

If you can be Batman, and choose to instead become Lex Luthor, then I can only hope we're in the "Infinite Crisis" timeline for LexCorp.

Humans seem to be diverging between two camps (and yes, vast oversimplification): (1) humans have innate value and (2) interactions between humans are transactional because there's no value but what we create for each other. BUT: this is divergent only if "value" is seen through a capitalist lens.

The more I have vulnerable one-to-one conversations with folks, the more I realize that we're all a little weird. And whether that weirdness stems from niche hobbies or neurodivergence, I have to wonder... Why do we strive for normal? If we all fall outside of the norm, can the norm even exist?

Prediction: AI will be embraced by enterprise in 2025. We will have a short time where skills get commoditized, feeling like we're being replaced by AI, but the companies that invest in their people + irreplaceable skills (like creativity, compassion, community) will surge ahead after an initial lag

Portfolio careers: the future of work, or a rebranding of hustle culture that continues to shift the onus of stability and future wealth from corporations to individuals? I'd like to think that it's a shift to career autonomy, wealth through diversification of income streams...but is it *really*?

Overstimulation & executive presence sit at odds. Fighting back the physical/mental presentation of overwhelm = 2° barrier for neurodivergents to surmount in leadership. Or perhaps we just normalize sharing how we are feeling, setting boundaries, and externalize/accelerate the solution.

The #FutureofWork being successful will hinge on investing in diverse founders. We need not only disruptive products, but disruptive ways of leading in which employee sentiment and engagement matter. This requires leaders with high EQ who are divorced from traditional enterprise and techbro cultures

Thoughts from discussion w/ a CHRO today: successful companies/leaders prioritize employee engagement. The data is measurable; the impact to the bottom line is clear; in Gallup's ongoing employee engagement survey, "top-quartile business units achieved 23% higher profit than bottom-quartile units."
World's Largest Ongoing Study of the Employee Experience
How a meta-analysis of 183,806 business units provides leaders with insights into building high-performing cultures.

"Reducing sludge means higher profit margins and more effective ecosystems" Knowing when to add process & when to take it away is a nuanced skill. Ops pros need to be close to their customers (the company!) & listen for early signs of sludge - frustrated, unofficial chatter around a process/platform

After dozens of conversations with knowledge workers reflecting back on the year, there's a clear theme: 2024 was a tough year, maybe even more so than the 2020-2023 era. What changed? A strong attempt to return to pre-2020 ways of working.
We've shifted too much. We need a new paradigm in 2025++
