Why do people believe it’s not worth it? Other than ignorance and habit, that is.

This is just another example of a corporate giant crushing the life out of workers & small businesses for marginally increased profits. Youtube has always had problems, but at least it was an viable alternative to MSM for both artists and audiences. Unfortunately those days might now be over. (9/9)

So audiences will probably now have to start going out of their way to keep up with their favorite creators. Namely, follow us on other platforms so you don't miss new videos, check your subscription tab more often than your recommended, and of course support us financially on Patreon. (8/9)

Undoubtedly there are also talented artists who have emerged recently, but regardless, this Tiktokification hurts ALL of us as workers. We're financially dependent on direct support from our audiences, and when Youtube weakens that link between us, it jeopardizes our ability to make a living. (7/9)

I have seen more and more channels this year with objectively shoddy and derivative content gain fairly substantial success, the telltale sign of high views but low subscription numbers indicating these are videos people are finding through passive recommendations rather than active interest. (6/9)

While I have no interest in pulling the ladder up behind me, I do think this means that the algorithm in general promotes more mediocre content, rather than letting audience tastes separate the wheat from the chaff via the traditional metrics of engagement – likes, comments, subscriptions. (5/9)

Youtube's interface actively discourages you from watching things from your subscriptions tab and funnels you into recommendations. This weakens the link between artist and audience in favor of a short attention span "variety show" type experience, which I guess keeps people watching longer. (4/9)

So Youtube is now recommending more vids by smaller, up & coming creators. In itself that's good! The issue is that it's part of a broader strategy to minimize audiences' control over their viewing experience – to make it more like Tiktok, which just feeds you whatever it thinks you will like. (3/9)

People said Youtube was oversaturated when I started making vids – that seems kinda quaint now. In 2025, the number of creators with substantial followings is now in the millions, and Youtube is learning from Tiktok's success, which prioritized giving almost everyone their 15 minutes of fame. (2/9)

Thank you to everybody at @animalactivism.bsky.social, @caftusa.bsky.social & more for your amazing work.

Never listen to anyone who says protests are just “virtue signaling.” With strategic planning and smart targets, a handful of determined activists can bring massive insitutions to their knees.

Animal fur is the most polluting textile by far (even more so than petroleum-based faux fur). 95% of the supply comes from factory farms where wild animals like foxes and minx are confined in cages before being strangled or anally electrocuted. This victory is a significant setback for the industry.
