Earlier today Battle's/RHG workers overwhelmingly voted to authorize a strike if necessary to win a fair contract. Workers demonstrated their resolve and that they will not back down from this fight!

For our final endorsement of the 2025 cycle, Local 689 is ecstatic to endorse @frankieforgreenbelt.org ! Frankie has been a true ally for labor, as a longtime organizer and Union staffer, and a strong supporter for world-class public transit.

Greenbelt family: vote for Frankie Fritz this Tuesday!

This Saturday, Local 689 is proud to join friends & allies from across the DMV to stand up and say “We are all DC!” We will not abide our coworkers, labor siblings, or our riders being harassed, surveilled, or kidnapped. The militarization of DC must end.

See you at Malcolm X Park! WeAreAllDC.com

Virginia voters living in the 11th Congressional District (Parts of Fairfax and Prince Williams counties) - there is a primary election day tomorrow! We've endorsed Stella who will fight for public transit and unions in Congress.

UPDATE: We have now moved into the building for the @wmata.com Board of Directors meeting. Without an empty seat in the house and filling overflow, transit workers have come in droves to stand up and speak out!

🚨 Happening NOW 🚨 Even in the scorching heat, Local 689 members are undeterred from standing up to @wmata.com and @wmatagm.bsky.social’s plans to remove Station Managers and Operators from our rail system. Join us now to demand a safe MetroRail for all!

Local 689 was incredibly proud to march with our siblings across the @atucomms.bsky.social and ATU Women’s Caucus today in NOLA for Juneteenth. Today and every day, we rededicate ourselves to freedom, fighting to right the wrongs of racial injustice in our country and empower Black workers!

Metro's plan to start phasing out station manager presence and future goal of removing operators from cabs in trains will make the system more unsafe for riders and workers. That's why we will be at outside the June WMATA Board meeting. Join us: actionnetwork.org/events/stop-...

At Local 689, we are committed to empowering all of our members and riders across the DMV. That means securing social and economic justice for ALL, including our queer and LGBTQIA+ family. Happy Pride!

Today we are urgently asking all riders, workers, and concerned neighbors around the DMV to call the @wmata.com Board at 202-962-1901 and tell them NO to unmanned stations and trains. Less staff to handle more people with no plan for workers isn’t just disappointing. It’s reckless.

Tonight at NoVA Labor, we are proud to be receiving an award for outstanding political activism. We know that we move this region, and when we come together, we can move its politics. Here are just some highlights of an amazing year fighting for transit and working people:
May 16, 2025 at 8:49 PM
Today, on May Day, we said it loud and clear: workers move this country. Whether it be our @dcfoodworkers.bsky.social brothers and sisters fighting for their Union, our federal and municipal workers, or our own Martz members— workers who fight, win. Solidarity forever!

For President Jackson, the membership of ATU 689 comes first. President Jackson was thrilled and surprised to have been officially commended by MD Gov Wes Moore for his dedication and never ending fight for our union's members!

🚨📢After a powerful 6 days on the line, ATU 689 members at Martz Gold Line have won our strike! 🚨
April 30, 2025 at 7:37 PM
Martz insists that the parties have reached an impasse. That is simply not true! The Union has been negotiating in good faith but not the company. You can't declare impasse when you have failed to bargain fairly. #ATU689FairContracts

For added context, we have negotiated and continue to negotiate in good faith. However, the offers provided thus far have been unacceptable. Read our full post below:

Our members at Martz Bus deserve dignity. Martz has provided wage offers far below the rest of the region and is trying to impose an alternative “charter rate” wage structure to keep them low. It’s time to tell management that enough is enough. Visit tinyurl.com/martzgoldline

ATU 689 was proud to have joined our NoVa Labor family yesterday in support of Don Beyer! Congressman Beyer is steadfast in his support for labor rights and working people! We're thrilled to have him as a champion in Congress!

As March draws to an end, Local 689 is highlighting Sarah Owens, who was both the first female and the first female African-American to be a bus operator for D.C. Transit.
