An Attention Deficit Democracy hurts us all.
From a great distance away from LA, it looks like the mainstream media is ready to place blame. The public does have a short attention span so maybe the clicks for what, where and when are drying up so they are moving on to who, why, and how. Can't wait for the 2 minute segment.

None of this is funny. Nuclear powers are involved in wars right now. The Bulletin of Atomic Scientists call this a moment of historic danger. Respectfully.

From talking to friends, they are alarmed that Hegseth is being considered. But may of these same people aren't contacting their senators. They stare at their screens but won't send a short email. I know lots of people who love to talk politics but they don't act. I keep reminding them...

NPR was known for its journalistic integrity. Then it started taking on corporate sponsors as public funding was cut and now it is an effective mouthpiece for the status quo. It still gets public money but big business is the tail that wags the dog. I listened and donated for 40 years.

Today on the TRT World podcast: An interview with Jeffery Sachs on how the US is leading us closer to Nuclear War. Knowledge and integrity without peer.

And, predictably, the right is spreading misinformation and disinformation about the situation in LA. And if the resulting confusion hampers efforts in the real world? Not their problem. Hashtag Not Our Problem belongs to them.

While the mainstream media continues its deification of Jimmy Carter, the Carter Doctrine gets scant attention.

I just emailed my congressman and asked that he not participate in shutting down the government.

Just up on the Dialogue Works podcast: Professor Jeffery Sachs. He has so much knowledge, integrity and subject matter experience that you won't see him on mainstream media. 30 minutes of strong medicine that neither Republicans not Democrats want us to hear.

For those interested in gun control and its opposite, I recommend "A Well-regulated Militia" by Paul Fussell, published in 1988. He was a professor of English and served in the infantry in WW II. It can be found in his book "Thank God for the Atom Bomb."

For justice, peace and prosperity to prevail, we must organize and then persevere. No giving up on our goals or on each other. We must mobilize, one person at a time, two at a time. The key is sacrifice. Sacrifice, inconvenience and pain are unavoidable. Unavoidable.

There can be no defense for murder. But our healthcare system isn't broken, it's working as designed. And it isn't ours.

@jetstove.bsky.social Hi Jet, I hope you can stay in TX. I live in Ohio and think that what I can do by interacting with Trump supporters dwarfs the effect of anything I post here.I see it as missionary work, aka citizen action. Respectfully.

The praise that Trump heaps on his supporters, which I don't take at face value, is still praise. People in the working class have been dismissed and demeaned by the Democrats for decades. We have been managed and worked and cast out at the first opportunity. Thus the recent election result.

I highly recommend a great newspaper, in print only. It is the Capital Hill Citizen. Founded by Ralph Nader and free of corporate influence and grounded in an ongoing critique of the two-part duopoly. You can get the November/December edition now.

For those interested in foreign policy, I highly recommend the Dialogue Works podcast. You won't get mainstream media song and dance, so brace yourself.

Making no judgments about any individual, US health care has the most unfair and predatory profit model I can imagine. It seems designed to wear patients down until they die or give up. And the government is no help thanks to resource-rich lobbyists. "Resource rich" is putting it kindly.

I don't know anything about nuclear weapons, but Russia now appears to have a new weapon that is very deadly but not nuclear. But it may be nuclear capable. It is known as Oreshnik.

Here in the US, we have rights that we don't use. We can easily contact our elected representatives. Right now we are getting dangerously close to what is politely termed a nuclear exchange between Russia and Europe, and US involvement is also a real possibility.

The lies and distortions that defeated Ohio's Issue 1 were in plain sight well before voting began. It should have been mayor news. The ballot language (in large type) that preceded the actual and legal description was deliberately misleading. Another win for the status quo.

From reading posts, I hear lots of anger and frustration. I'd like to respectfully suggest 2 things that are helping me to cope. First, I cut back on news a lot. It's doable. Second, a hard one for many: I took someone from the opposing side to lunch. We didn't discuss politics. End of lecture.

Say no to nuclear weapons.
