Thomson’s was my first Bax CD, I still remember listening in awe to those swelling cellos underpinned by a deep-as-the-ocean organ pedal. Amazing to think it was premiered by SFS, which have abandoned any sense of adventure in their upcoming season.

I missed the NY announcement… wow! In today’s US, Rzewski’s The People United variations as a centerpiece is a really strong move, together with Adès’s America, Ives, and all the programs centered on female and BIPOC artists/composers. Bravo to the artistic direction for sticking to their mission

It’s like LA looked at SF and responded item by item on how to actually create a real season full of events to be looking for. Of course, they still have artistic direction from Dudamel… and Salonen appears _twice_, so the SF excuses he’s not around California are moot www.laphil.com/events/perfo...
