Today, October 22, 2025, marks 50 years since Arconada's debut in the first team. For this reason, all La Real goalkeepers are wearing "Arconada" jerseys this season.

Years later, we would once again see La Real's goalkeepers wearing light blue (or orange) shirts, with black shorts and white socks. In the 2010/11 season, Astore made a nod to "Arconada's shirt".

In 2008, Spain won the European Championship. During the celebration, Andrés Palop wore the very same shirt that Arconada had worn 24 years earlier in the Euro ’84 final in Paris. For the 2010 World Cup, Adidas released updated versions of the shirt in blue and green.

In his early years we can see Arconada wearing the txuri–urdin striped socks so characteristic of the time, with blue socks, and even some surprising and unusual red socks.
October 22, 2025 at 8:28 AM
More than his shirts, his white socks are probably his most distinctive element of his attire. They were a staple from the early 1980s until the end of his career, both with La Real and the national team.

In addition to variations on the "Arconada’s Shirt”, he also wore other models, some more iconic, some less iconic, and even some plain. He also wore a green shirt and blue pants, a recurring combination for La Real at one time.

Arconada didn't always wear "his kit"; he did so for only a couple of seasons. From then on, he alternated between other models with different variations of the shirt, but with other blue or green ones, both for La Real and the national team, both by Adidas and Le Coq Sportif.

As captain, Arconada won four titles with La Real —the 80/81 League, the 81/82 League, the 81/82 Spanish Super Cup, and the 86/87 Cup— wearing four different shirts, all without a crest.

On April 26, 1981, La Real won its first league title, led and captained by Arconada, who wore the orange version of "his shirt", but —something unimaginable today— as usual, it did not display either the Adidas logo or the crest of his club, la Real.

During the 1979/80 season, "the season of unbeaten performances", La Real debuted its first Adidas kit. The team had never worn a brand name before, with the exception of Arconada, who had been doing so for several seasons.

During the 1979/80 and 1980/81 seasons, Arconada alternated between the two versions of the iconic shirt —orange and light blue— and didn't change his shirt color until he lost a match. During the 1979/80 season, La Real didn't lose a match until the penultimate matchday.

The goalkeeper shirt with a colored bottom and top and sleeves in black has become a type of jersey that, in addition to Adidas, we've also seen variations or similar models from other brands over time.
October 22, 2025 at 8:19 AM
His iconic jersey is a generic Adidas shirt from the era, worn by goalkeepers such as Jesús Castro, Miguel Ángel, Urrutikoetxea, and Dasayev, among others. The fact that it identifies with Arconada isn't due to any exclusivity, but rather to the stature he achieved as a goalkeeper.

Arconada’s Shirt
Not all heroes wear capes, and neither does the one from our childhood and an entire generation, but he wears a light blue or orange shirt with black on the chest, black shorts, and white socks... and, what's more, he flies.

October 22, 2025 at 8:03 AM

October 22, 2025 at 7:58 AM

October 22, 2025 at 7:55 AM

October 22, 2025 at 7:53 AM
