The government should definitely fund it. The report just cements the knowledge that decarbonization will not happen cheaply or without government, and our level of cookedness is based on this

If you stop building nuclear power plants now, you reap so few benefits of the learning curve, the skilled professionals. The second one you build will be cheaper and faster.

This is the same thing after each first nuclear power plant ever built - why build another one, fossil fuels are cheap?

Every single country in europe should be building everything they can to decarbonize, not monitor spot pricing. The environment will still be in dire straits in 10 years, if anything worse.

I'm not batteries biggest fan, but sure, build more batteries. But don't stop the nuclear momentum.

Countries should phase out biofuels from their total energy consumption - we should not be burning wood for energy any more, it's 2025 for gods sake

"From 2021 to 2023, 60% of tree cover loss in Finland occurred within natural forest. The total loss within natural forest was 469kha, equivalent to 103 Mt of CO₂e emissions."

This is the crux of it. Opinions don't matter that much apparently. And the markets won't support decarbonization. If you don't care about the environment, there is no reason to build nuclear. So literally the only pressure comes from environmentalists - a tiny sliver of the world. Hence, cooked.

It is, but that's the game, no? We need to completely decarbonize, not just decarbonize our electricity. It's not enough to get to 40% clean energy sources in total and then throw your hands up and say well, here no need to build any new nuclear

Ah so that’s the trick! Gotta get on that 🤔

Looked it up again:

"The stack of dry casks on a football field would be 135 meters high (or 443 feet, or 148 yards)."

"a stack of spent fuel pellets 3.0 meters tall (3.3 yards/9.84 feet/118 inches)"
