Nuclear Physics Graduate ☢️. Autistic. Socialist 🍉. British 🇬🇧.
I enjoy challenging people's preconceptions on nuclear power and it's physics.
Apologies if I don't reply, the social anxiety is real (Also why I don't post).
Oh, I completely agree. Any progress is good.
I appreciate that I'm very much in a minority that considers this a voting issue, but the prospect of potentially being able to throw my support behind a green party is new and exciting. I hope Zack continues to evolve this party. 😊

Zack is definitely a very promising figure and I'm sure he'd do a grand job if he became party leader.
The only point holding me back is his tepid support of nuclear power.
Though credit where its due, it's still a massive improvement over current and previous leadership.

That's fine if you're running it offline, but if it's connected it's a real security risk. Even without downloading anything dodgy. 😊

God I miss the 2019 labour party. 😢
December 10, 2024 at 8:36 AM
It's a red flag for me because being the "green" party, I'd expect them to put climate policy pretty high on their priorities. This is in direct contradiction with their energy policy.
If they're not going to take their climate policy seriously, how can I trust that they'll take the rest seriously?
December 10, 2024 at 8:35 AM
The reason I can't vote green is because of their energy policies. I can get behind more wind and solar, but to back it up with gas not nuclear? I don't know if it's the gas lobby or an anti-science bias, but that's a huge red flag to me.

"Most real farmers", stop with that true Scotsmen logic fallacy.
It will close the tax loophole hole for millionaires (good)
It will shaft family farms (bad)
And it won't directly impact private firms like Blackrock except giving them farms to take over on the cheap.
Or is that what you want?
November 25, 2024 at 2:55 PM
So, taking a £3mil farm. £2m is taxable at 10%. £200,000 tax bill every 40-50 years is not insignificant. And because of sky high land prices (more in some locations than others), that won't have a large chunk of farmland meaning revenue won't be high.
November 25, 2024 at 2:50 PM
Again, I'm not against the inheritance tax.
Sure, you vision of nationwide children inheritance is wonderful, but that's not on offer, that's not happening.
Tax loopholes need to be closed - we agree.
The current proposal would make almost every family farm commercially un-viable.
November 25, 2024 at 1:51 PM
If farms are getting taxed at 10% total value over £1m every, what, 40-50 years?
In a few generations there won't be any family owned farms because it simply wouldn't be profitable.
I'm not against the inheritance tax but it needs fine tuning, there are nuances here you're ignoring.

Unfortunately Biden and Harris have undermined a lot of their voter base by maintaining Trump era policies. (For example, middle Eastern policy)
November 22, 2024 at 7:21 AM
The ICJ never said that they are (to my knowledge) just that there's reasonable grounds to investigate that accusation. They're still in their "investigation" phase.
November 21, 2024 at 2:26 PM
The warrants never got issued before. Israel and their allies objected to whether or not the ICC had jurisdiction.

Finally!

Again, feeding into the importance of the subs. 😄

...okay? That's not what I was endorsing?
I was drawing a parallel between the new technology and time proven technology.

Erosion takes place on the turbine side which is the area that can be/is maintained. Though how often would that need doing?
I'm imagining very rarely though at this point I'll happily admit I'm out of my depth. :)

SMRs are like the next evolution of submarine reactors. Both are designed for constant high output with bare minimal maintenance. But SMRs operate autonomously/remotely.
There's some cool designs out there that use pumps without moving parts (near impossible to break!).

Hope I got the tone right?
November 20, 2024 at 4:22 PM
I made no reference to renewables as I agree that - in this example - they have no place.
Nuclear can and does get dismantled (though legacy designs are... challenging.
SMRs are designed to operate without physical intervention and core maintenance. I recommend that you look at a few designs (cool).
