"It can be tempting to say that just as the Red Scare petered out, so too will the current hunt for “disloyal” elements. But ... there’s an important difference:Loyalty then meant loyalty to the United States; today Trump demands loyalty to himself and his agenda."

They will say yes. Won't actually buy the stuff. And he will declare victory

John Oliver is amazing at breaking down subjects like mass deportation and laying bare the truth.

Yes. While there are absolutely things Democrats can and must do to slow, obstruct, etc, GOP hold both House and Senate majorities, severely limiting our options.

Johnson and Thune are handing over the own keys and relinquishing their own power. Even for the cynics this should be a shock.
We all like to yell at the Democrats, but it’s really Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune who are letting Elon Musk and his faceless goon squad make a mockery of their power as leaders of a coequal branch without uttering a peep or lifting a finger.

Even Bartiromo is sceptic about Trump's claim that DEI programs are to blame for the DC crash 👀
REP. ERIC BURLISON: The FAA is riddled with DEI problems

BARTIROMO: Do you have any evidence though that any of those hires were DEI hires?

BURLISON: Not until we get into the investigation

They'll blame it on DEI. Just watch.

Is anyone surprised that Trump almost immediately blamed the DC plane crash on Democrats and DEI programs for it and essentially say it wouldn't have happened if he had been in charge?

He used the 9/11 attacks to talk about himself too.

Trump is nothing if not consistent.

On 9/11, Trump noted on TV that his Financial District building was now the ‘tallest’
"When they built the World Trade Center, it became known as the second-tallest, and now it's the tallest," Trump said the day of the attacks.

This is a great question for all of congress to think about.

Hypothetically,If FEMA goes away, what happens to home owners and other insurance rates ?

Climate change looks like it will make rates so high, home insurers will want equity in your house as a way of holding down rates
I wonder how much the dissolution of FEMA and cancellation of flooding infrastructure programs is going to increase insurance premiums?

Especially as the population ages, inflation spikes, and a large % of housing stock is used as short term rentals in high risk areas.

It's like Trump read 1984 and came away with a completely different interpretation than anyone else. He probably thought Winston Smith deserved his punishment in Rm 101 and that Big Brother had the right idea.
