Which is not that different to the way that I learned way more about grammar studying a second language in school than I did from any English classes. I do wonder given my era whether anyone tried to teach me to read this way, but my parents would have overwhelmed it anyway 🤔

I do imagine kids growing up learning two languages at once might be helped by learning to read properly in the other language and then applying that to English, but that probably depends on their circumstances
