Rangers axe CEO Patrick Stewart & sporting director Kevin Thelwell
Rangers were sitting eighth in the Scottish Premiership, 11 points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian, and had failed to qualify for the Champions League when former Southampton boss Martin was axed. They have narrowed the gap to nine domestically under new team boss Danny Rohl and are up to fourth - but have now lost all four Europa League games - the latest two under the German - amid criticism of their summer transfer business. "Responsible change is measured and steady," Cavenagh said. "Our first priority has been to improve the sporting performance and that led to our decision to part ways with Russell and bring in Danny.

The Hard-Left Shooters Leading a Gun Culture Revolution
Kasarda is dressed in a sandy acid-wash T-shirt and tartan cargo pants—“postapocalyptic cowboy meets dad,” Gun Bunny chimes in. A 51-year-old cis white man whose love of subcultures spans hacking, industrial music, and a stint as a minister with the Satanic Temple, Kasarda eschews the title of “leader.” On the contrary, he says he has “a problem with authority” and “flirts” with the idea of anarchy. But there is no question he is largely responsible for building this alternative gun community, which he and others describe as the “punk rock outsiders of the shooting community.”

Former PM David Cameron reveals he had prostate cancer
Former Prime Minister David Cameron has revealed he has been treated for prostate cancer. Lord Cameron, 59, told the Times newspaper his wife had insisted he go for a check-up after they listened to a BBC radio interview with entrepreneur Nick Jones, who was campaigning for more men to be tested after being diagnosed himself. The Tory peer had a prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test earlier this year, followed by an MRI scan and a biopsy. He was then treated with focal therapy, which targets the area where the tumour is present using methods such as ultrasound waves to destroy cancer cells.

Eberechi Eze: Why things will never be same again for ‘super-talented’ Arsenal star – Danny Murphy
I know from experience there are certain games where, if you are the player who makes the difference, the fans never forget it. I had been a Liverpool player for more than three years when I scored my first winner for them against Manchester United in 2000. I was used to being asked for autographs and people talking to me, but that goal against our biggest rivals suddenly elevated everything to a different level. I was now the player who had scored that goal for us, and against them. It was like people saw me in a different way, and certainly thought more highly of me, because I had given them this joy in a fixture that meant so much to them.

Steffan Messenger,Wales environment correspondent and Ellie Carter,BBC Wales Postance Poultry Kate Postance is keeping her free-range turkeys inside to protect them from avian flu A poultry farmer fears there would be "no way back" for her business if her birds contracted avian flu. Tens of thousands of turkeys and chickens have been culled in recent weeks following a spate of cases in mid, west and north Wales. Industry leaders said concerns about the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 "cannot be overemphasised" and Wales' chief vet Richard Irvine said the government was working with industry bodies to tackle the "severe" situation.

World Boxing: Gennady Golovkin elected president of federation
Golovkin won the Olympic silver medal in the middleweight division at the 2004 Games in Athens. He also held world and Asian titles as an amateur before stepping up to the professional ranks, in which he held a middleweight world title and is widely regarded as one of the fiercest competitors of his generation. Although not officially retired, he has not fought since losing the third fight of his trilogy with Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez in September 2022. The only blemishes on his 45-fight record are two defeats by Mexico's Alvarez following a controversial draw in their first encounter that many believed Golovkin had won.

Game Theory Explains How Algorithms Can Drive Up Prices
The original version of this story appeared in Quanta Magazine. Imagine a town with two widget merchants. Customers prefer cheaper widgets, so the merchants must compete to set the lowest price. Unhappy with their meager profits, they meet one night in a smoke-filled tavern to discuss a secret plan: If they raise prices together instead of competing, they can both make more money. But that kind of intentional price-fixing, called collusion, has long been illegal. The widget merchants decide not to risk it, and everyone else gets to enjoy cheap widgets.

Rail fares to be frozen in England next year
Rail fares in England are to be frozen next year for the first time in 30 years, the government has announced. The freeze until March 2027 will apply to regulated fares, which includes season tickets and off-peak returns. The most recent fare rise, in March 2025, was 4.6%. Rail fares traditionally have gone up in January, based on the July rate of the retail price index (RPI) + 1% - although this formula has not always been followed. The announcement comes days before the chancellor sets out the government's financial plans in the Budget on Wednesday, with Rachel Reeves indicating that cutting the cost of living will be a key focus.

Las Vegas Grand Prix result: Max Verstappen wins as Lando Norris extends lead over Oscar Piastri
At the start, Norris was true to his claim that he was "not here not to take risks" as he fought hard to defend his advantage from pole position from Verstappen. But after an aggressive cut in front of Verstappen to head off the Dutchman's attack on the inside, Norris misjudged his braking point and ran deep into the corner. That allowed Verstappen to drive past into the lead while Norris also lost second place to Russell. Through two virtual safety cars for some early incidents, including at the start when Racing Bulls' Liam Lawson collided with Piastri, Verstappen slowly stamped his authority on the race.

While Sir Keir's suggestion that Andrew should give evidence echoes one he made earlier this month, it nonetheless "adds to pressure on the disgraced royal", Sunday People reports. The Sun on Sunday's story adds that Metropolitan Police officers are searching for emails related to claims Andrew asked royal protection officers to find information on Virginia Giuffre. The prominent accuser of Epstein alleged Andrew had sex with her as a teenager - something the former prince denied.

British light-heavyweight Anthony Yarde's third shot at a world title ended in heartbreak again after a systematic beat-down by WBC champion David Benavidez in Saudi Arabia. After a slow start, American Benavidez seized control, sending 34-year-old Yarde to the canvas with a barrage in the seventh. With blood streaming from Yarde's nose and smeared across the canvas, another heavy flurry of punches with a minute left in the round forced the referee to halt the contest. "I stuck in there. I'm a fighter," Yarde told BBC Radio 5 Live. "I felt like it was competitive.

Two saplings were installed in Coventry and Staffordshire, with others set to be planted in Berkshire, Cambridge and Strabane, County Tyrone, the National Trust said. More plantings will take place in Hexham, Leeds and Sunderland next week. It is part of the charity's Trees of Hope initiative, which received nearly 500 applications for the 49 saplings grown from seeds rescued from the tree, which stood in a dip next to Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland until two men cut it down in September 2023.

Ashes: ‘England’s first-Test defeat in Perth one of their worst ever’
England are not a bad cricket team. They are a good cricket team that can occasionally be a thrilling cricket team. They are also a stubborn, maddening and slow-learning cricket team. Many of the worst, most painful defeats since Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum took charge have been self-inflicted. In Wellington in 2023, England made New Zealand follow on, and lost. In the Ashes of the same year, England declared on day one at Edgbaston, then had the benefit of Nathan Lyon limping off Lord's. They lost both. The following year, away to India in Rajkot: 224-2 in reply to 445, with Ravichandran Ashwin out of the match to attend a family emergency.

It follows the banning of the drugs for gender treatment last year after a major review raised concerns about the lack of clinical evidence over their safety for under-18s. The decision to move Head up the order will go down as one of the great Ashes tactical moves. Faced with having to replace Khawaja, just as they did in the first innings, Australia realised the best plan on the difficult Perth pitch was to attack. Left-hander Head, who has opened in the past, was moved up from number five with licence to play his natural game. The outcome was sensational and, even at this early stage, could define the series. Head climbed into the England bowling, bringing debutant Jake Weatherald along for the ride.
