When you look at how most people were living back then you have to ask "was anywhere?"

I find the "I came out because of you" discussion at the end really interesting. I think those people were already drafted - inspiring them to come out is just giving them the weapons to fight, and to live with joy beyond that war. The horrors hurt anyway - the joy of being yoursef is new.

Looking at new ways to make our own content streams that don't accommodate it seems to be the only opt out button. I'm looking at projects that might provide options. @jessiegender.bsky.social kinda alludes to a similar idea in her latest video - make our own stories etc.

Owning swords and large knives isn't illegal, carrying them in public without a good reason is. I assume this ban, like the ban on other "ninja" weapons from 1988 or the zombie knives ban, will be a ban on owning them at all.

Only if they're hand-forged using traditional methods. Cheap ones were made illegal by the 1988 criminal justice (offensive weapons) act, with the carveout for traditional ones only made due to objections from martial artists.

I'm fortunate enough to have a pear tree and some berry bushes in my garden and the amount of fruit they produce always astounds me. It's more than I can eat in the season, I have to find people to give dozens of pears to.

I think we could call it Flaturn day.

Also, if you have a pet that likes physical contact, stroking them is a good alternative to rage posting.

Bit of a frying pan/fire situation there I think. Farage used to be an actual neo-Nazi and has never done anything to convince me he totally saw the error of his ways there.

And he will jump on a grenade for the sake of his pack, despite the fact that he could easily have been written as purely self-serving.

If I could force literally all executives to read (and understand) Nassim Taleb's book "The Black Swan", well, that would at least be nice. He breaks down the reasons we can't plan assuming we've predicted every eventually really well.

Too many of the UK's "will just kill you" mushrooms are all white for me to feel comfortable looking at wild white fungi 😂

And here I nearly made a Warhammer joke on your DnD post on FB.

The John Birch Society! In *this* political climate?

Although as far as I could tell, having called it he didn't bother to campaign much 😂

Having not quite framed it this way to myself before, I'd have said I was angry at their suffering, and angry that people who could choose to change things don't. And yes, accepting that if they did change things I might lose out, but I wouldn't have called it angry *because* I benefited. Curious.

Oh right, I see your point. Sure, the path to actually fixing these problems is unclear. But claiming overpopulation and not overconsumption is the problem muddies that path further, and distracts from the real effort.

I will allow that anyone advocating for reducing population numbers by lowering the birth rates of rich nations is not being racist, but the concern is always how many children are being born in poor nations even though they consume neglible amounts of resources compared to 1 globally rich person.
