I’m loath to propose changing rules to get more convictions, because in practice, if we make it easier for the government to imprison ppl, that change will be felt in already over policed and over incarcerated populations and not in privileged communities where the culture of entitlement runs deep

Like most SA cases, this one fell into the wide gulf between exoneration and proof-of-guilt-beyond-reasonable-doubt. I don’t know what the crown was thinking retraumatizing a victim (who had already been vindicated civilly) without the evidence that would lead to a conviction
