Finished Shattered Tablets by Joshua Leifer (h/t @dtemkin.bsky.social ty) about the way American Judaism has changed from the 20th to 21st century and it really challenged the way I think about my own choices as an individual, as opposed to a trend. Didn't agree entirely but an important history

Just had my 40th birthday party and true to form more than half the RSVPs were sick, injured, or exhausted. Had a good time nonetheless.

I feel like Benedetta (2021) was all the rage when it came out. But just catching up to it now, it has all of Verhoeven's bad taste (that I love) but won't let itself truly descend into camp. Also the CGI looks worse than 1999. Surely renegade lesbian nuns deserve better?
