They make war on universities, banish scientific research, peddle quack theories about vaccines as a pretext to expand mass surveillance and data sharing, strip legal residents of their rights and empower armies of goons, which is what the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has become, to spread fear and ensure passivity. Reality, whether the climate crisis or the immiseration of the working class, does not impinge on their fantasies. The worse it gets, the more idiotic they become."

It's not the Orange Wonder that is the problem. He's just the current focus. It's the roughly 1/3 of Americans that yearn for the greatness of old. The greatness of Southern White plantation owners more than a century ago. The greatness of Southern White men in their pointy white hats with builtin masks. The greatness of fear of the different, of the unknown, and of the unfathomable. In short, the greatness of xenophobia.
