Yes. Fortunately asteroids are tracked by professional and amateur astronomers alike all around the world. So no one could keep it quiet, if it were to take aim straight for us.

Yes, it’s a fair point that the dino-killer was no picnic. But it’s surprising that the atmosphere rights itself more quickly with the large impactor versus the smaller one. Sort of like choosing between a quick death or a longer one.
