Sh 2-140 is about 3000 light years away in the direction of Cepheus. An emission nebula, it is heated by young stars. The sharp edge along the bottom of the nebula marks a dark molecular cloud where new stars are forming.

Most of my garden is going to sleep for the winter, but this sunny little coneflower isn’t quite ready yet! 🌱🌺#bloomscrolling

Here's a cleaned up image of C/2025 K1 ATLAS 🔭🧪
I was only able to get ~25min before sunrise, but it's a good thing I woke up at 5:30 so I could be sure to see this comet before it heads back to the outer solar system.

Not sure why I’m awake, but might as well look at this comet!
C/2025 K1 ATLAS
Apparently this “the other ATLAS”, a new comet from the Oort Cloud making its first (and perhaps only) trip through the inner solar system. 🔭 🧪 #Seestar S50

Super faint aurora or wishful thinking? 🤷‍♀️

Prepping for the first freeze of the season. I had pretty good luck last year, but we will see how many of these cuttings survive until spring! (Have a bunch more in a different window too)
I also planted 4 packs of crocus bulbs today and am looking forward to their cheerful faces heralding spring 🌱

NGC 6946, the Fireworks Galaxy, and open cluster NGC 6939. The latter is a loose collection of stars only ~4000 light years away, while the former is a gravitationally bound “island universe” about 25 million light years away.

And here is Comet Lemmon (C/2025 A6) from the same night. It was also passing by Earth, but this comet is currently on its way toward the Sun. It was very low in the sky, just above the trees and viewed through the top of the fog.

Comet SWAN (C/2025 R2) from my trip to Moundville Archaeological Park. On Oct 21 when I captured these images, the comet was passing Earth on its way to the outer solar system. It seems to have very little tail left after its trip past the Sun

Found myself under a dark moonless sky at Moundville Archaeological Park with fog billowing around and two comets above.
Sounds like the opening of a novel, but in reality it was much less creepy than it sounds. We had telescopes and good conversation; I’m glad I managed to get out there! 🔭🧪
