I don’t often get asked but usually when I do it’s people asking if I’m sick (out of concern for me, I think).

Sometimes when people ask and I say I’m just being careful they say something like “I wanted to check if you knew something I didn’t!” and I always think no, pretty sure you know it too……

I think most people would rather hear a reason they know can’t apply to them, so they don’t have to question their own choices

I don’t have any special medical excuses to offer, I have no health problems and I’d probably recover in a reasonable amount of time if I caught whatever virus is going around, I just really value not being sick

No, it’s about the foolishness of people letting themselves be in thrall of one guy

I think our society likes to imagine the CEO types get where they are because of some strong vision or purpose, but I think what we’re seeing is they’re mostly just the sort of people who follow the tides as they’re flowing and learn to catch whatever is the biggest wave.

I feel like the existence of folks like that is a constant though

Yeah that’s the thing. It’s like 10 guys at the top and then a bunch of opportunists who would bend with the wind no matter which way it’s blowing

Yeah I mean there are and always have been a bunch of aimless sociopaths hanging around ready to be weaponized; the key thing today is the power at the top making effective use of them
