Pretty bad picture, but what was fun was that we went to our nearest park - there's an artificial hill, where Otto Lilienthal did his "flights" - and where in awe with about 50 other people. I love it when humanity enjoys these natural spectacles.

Nice, took a while for me to recognize, because the galaxies I am used to seeing red are white or blue in this image and it's tilted a bit with respect to the iconic HUDF.

Why are you posting a headline from January 2024 from a study that was later retracted?

Just spent an amazing three weeks in Aspen debating Lya emitters, among others with these 3 wonderful ladies from Iran, Japan and France. We thrive when we come together. I was so sad to see Hasti being worried the whole time about her parents in Tehran. We forget so much about the human side.

When we lived in Davis, CA, we would always see the California Zephyr and wonder how it would be to go to Chicago. Today I'm crossing the Rockies on it. Gorgeous, spatious and everybody is so excited, especially on the observation deck.

Olbers' Paradox has long ended in other or selected wavelengths (see image). I doubt that we will reach it for stellar light, though, since our visible Universe is finite.

Illustrious astronomers visiting the @aippotsdam.bsky.social colloquium. 😃

We use an "up-down" method of searching for these candidates in the 4 eRosita all-sky scans; very close SMBHBs should exhibit this variable behaviour. We followed up with NICER to confirm this variability. The optical spectra showed AGN for 15/16. This looks really promising! (2/2)

So any site that can read my DMs I should leave?

Though the avoid the Gulf of Mexico also under normal conditions. What is definitely more is the action north of Yucatan, which in your video they seem to avoid. The screenshot is right now. So the truth is somewhere in between?

Huh? If I look at second 3ish and then follow the two airplanes I marked in the screenshot, they immediately fly into the "strictly forbidden" zone. Could you explain that?

Congratulations, Dr. Kurpas!

Attending Jan Kurpas' PhD defence. Even though he does something completely different from my science, I am happy I could be on his committee in a role of mentor (even though he needed just nudges).

And there are trends with stellar mass! All outflow velocities (launch, max, etc.) and higher optical depths.

We now have a statistical sample of 34 galaxies with MgII halos from the MUSCATEL surver. Mind you, these are really hard to detect, people used to write single papers on these.
February 13, 2025 at 2:25 PM
My colleague Ismael Pessa is giving our house colloquium, talking about mapping and modeling the CGM using the MgII line in emission. 🤩
