Current estimates of the mass in stars in the Milky Way are consistent with ~5e10 solar masses. The Phoenix A black hole is ~1e11 solar masses

So this black hole is about twice the mass of all of the stars in our Galaxy combined

Astronomer here — you’re correct. It’s stellar death, not birth. It’s a planetary nebula, which forms when a low-mass star not too different from the Sun sheds its outer layers at the end of its life

Whenever I’m asked about life on another planet, I honestly just lose interest in the conversation. It’s for the same reason — galaxies are cool in there own right, aliens or no aliens, and they have no bearing on my work

Yea even this year it feels like only a few teams are the real contenders. Nonetheless, it feels much less arbitrary. Which team gets to advance is decided on the field as opposed to people who we’re just told know things about football, even though a lot of them disagree anyway 🏈
