Lifetime Trekkie and STO fanatic.
I spent some time making a new animation in Blender! I wanted to make better explosions... Maybe one day I'll get around to learning about lighting.

Enjoy!

My KABOOMs in Blender are looking more kaboom-y, but they're still not where I want them to be.

Found my first-ever purchase from the Internet!

It was still something I had to mail-order, but the address and instructions were online, lol.

Don't do calisthenics in your board shorts, kids!

Well, the Shangri-La will certainly complete the Titan trifecta in the game. #STO

An attempt in EEVEE to do a DS9 opening credit scene. All Chris Kuhn models. This was way back in 2022.

Way back when I first tried to do a decloak effect on an instanced object (look at those warping textures!)

I've lost the source files for this one, but this was when I made a joke video for Star Trek Day.

I have a real soft spot for the Steamrunner. This was a test with lens flares.

I'm really not happy with how this one turned out, but it was a fun romp through physics...

My recreation of *that* scene in Picard S3, but with the Connie and the Miranda... and my desperately trying to understand particles in Blender.

When you look at the ship's hull in the rendered view, all those layers work together to make a passable-from-a-distance texture, all from essentially 2 images (aztec and registry):

(end of thread)

5. Finally, I overlaid the registry (and the... tan arc?) and combined it all together into one Principled BSDF node:

4. I re-used the aztec layer AGAIN, but applied a different noise texture to use as a specular layer:

3. I used that SAME texture, and ran it through a couple of nodes to lighten it and also apply a noise texture to it (for weathering):

2. I then fixed the polarized "aztec" layer from my old PSD file... I had misaligned the pattern and it caused some weird artifacts... Anyway, I brought that fixed texture in as a metallic layer:

The time I tried to fix my ship's hull texture in Blender, but was lazy about it:

1. I started out with a base coat in "TOS gray"
