I really hope Civilization 7 steps out in a new direction and launches feeling both consistent and complete... and the has years of DLC bolted on that completely fucks it up.

I'm sure this is all very fun and clever and competitive against human players, but against the AI on Deity I just find myself trying to mitigate the joyless convolutions the DLC adds so I can actually get back to the fun city planning stuff.

All of these additions are extremely boardgame-y. You can totally imagine them as little decks of cards. They also fuck up the tempo of the game, which in turn makes forward planning more tedious.

Gathering Storm adds CLIMATE CHANGE, which manifests as a series of potentially damaging random events, and the UNITED NATIONS which manifests as a series of potentially damaging random events.

Rise and Fall adds a new currency that exists soley to punish you for spreading your empire out too fast, and half a dozen new tech trees to micromanage.

Civ 6 already has this annoying board-gamey inversion where your most important decisions are your earliest. The DLCs just end up compounding this problem by adding more systems and more map pressure.
