This is what happens when you are shot in the head with a "rubber bullet". The term "rubber bullet" is very deceptive. They are either steel with a rubber coating or mixture of materials with rubber being a minor component. They should be referred to as baton rounds.
Mohammed Tamimi, who lost a third of his skull when the Israel shot what was called a rubber bullet at his head, when he was 15 years old.

I'm confused. He says his students are average but their writing skills are at an eighth grade level. What does he mean by "eighth grade level"? One would presume he means the level of the average eighth grader. So the average college student writes as well as the average eighth grader? Is he saying that an they literally go through high school unchanged? And this is true even though they probably write a lot on social media and their brains develop substantially over that period? Furthermore, he ultimately concludes that "this is not an educational system problem." This all seems unlikely. And the example he gives us is of students taking an exam, who are probably trying to hurry? I suppose it might be possible that an extremely rushed average college student writes like an average eighth grader. Working memory is impaired in stressful situations. Wouldn't an example from a paper be a more reasonable example of their written expression abilities? And he says they are functionally illiterate, but he still concludes that his students are lying when they said they did the reading? And he complains that he believes they don't have the attention span to get through a 600 page book that he likes? With all do respect, aren't philosophers known for reading things that most people would not have the attention span to finish? After reading all of this, I believe I would find his textbook very confusing, and have a great deal of difficulty in his class.
