Professional creative from way over yonder. Mostly I'm here to vibe with other nerds and infodump about the many projects I've got cooking up...maybe then I'll actually have the wherewithal to finish them 😅
First flux capacitor complete dry fit went off without a hitch. mostly held together with gravity, dust, friction, and enthusiasm (instead of glue), but it's starting to gel. Next: acrylic blocks x3, bracket -mounting x3, wire clips x3. Then: off to arduino land...

Flux capacitor build is coming along nicely!

Happy Monday Bluesky!! Whomever you are, whatever you're doing, you got dis. Love isn't dead, and neither is hope, even though Mondays will always kinda suck. 💙💙

Saturday prop building. Dry fit, #backtothefuture flux capacitor, phase 2. Next up in phase 3: are making and installing the acrylic wedges, adding torr reproduction labels, gluing the relays together, making and installing faux terminal posts. drilling for and mounting the leds. Nothing to it! 😇

Throwback Friday! At the risk of seeming obsessed, this past year, I was lucky enough to attend the inaugrual #Ghostbusters day in Los Angeles, where I got a chance to see this gorgeous machine in person (not for the first time). Pictures don't do it justice, but here's one anyway.

Got a bunch of work done last night on the #backtothefuture flux capacitor project. Here's Luky the Ornery Shop Cat, who emerged from hiding places unknown to inspect the build and knock a bunch of small components off the table 😅Let's face it, he's the real boss.

In furtherance of my dream of building a 1:1 replica of the Shrink Ray from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, I took this picture in 1991 of its cousin #prop from the sequel, at Disney World's Backlot Tour. It's interesting to examine the ways it represents an evolution of the original shapes and ideas!

Ok, I'll play!

Another pic from the proton pack build. At this stage, the objective was to create the wiring harness from pack to wand. Needed to support 3 toggles, a 3 way selector, and too many other wire-hungry things to list. Of note is the test panel I created for programming the arduino #ghostbusters

Another inside view of the pack and wand. The wand's "speaker shelf" can be seen languishing to the side - to say that it was a chore to figure out and install is the very definition of understatement - see also the "floating" pop mechanism, captured below in the extended position. #ghostbusters

A look inside the proton packs "neutrona wand". The rules were: no glue, "real components" (actual valves, aluminum everything, etc.), all knobs and controls must function / "do something", accurate lights, working "pop mechanism", a 30watt speaker - and an accelerometer. Not easy. #ghostbusters

Can you guess this latest project? It's sort of ...in flux... as I wait for parts 😁 #propbuilding

An inside view of the proton pack. It was almost as challenging to engineer all this as it was to build the shell itself. This was taken during the arduino programming phase. Not pictured: one filling-rattling subwoofer. #ghostbusters

As doctor Emmett Lanthrop Brown once said: "The future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one!" And the best part is, you don't need to add a nuclear reactor to a questionable classic car to do it. 😁

Follow up post - here's a detailed look at the components on the left side. One of the key ideas I wanted to explore was the "cable harness", which I made using a ton of old wires from a broken TV - situated around a length of clear tubing to make it look much thicker than it really is.

Here's another, older build that's been my favorite decoration for quite some time. As far as I know, I'm one of the only nerds out there who's built a shrink ray from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. This is just a rough draft, made from mostly plumbing supplies. Stay tuned! #propbuilding

This project o' mine came out pretty slick. Still gotta install a fog fx kit, digital potentiometer for discrete light cycle speed control, and a 5v converter to support 4 more relays... should be simple 😅 follow for more #ghostbusters #propmaking and other nerdy distractions.
